WTIP Station Manager elected to NFCB Board of Directors

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. August 14, 2007-- WTIP Station Manager Deb Benedict has been elected to serve on the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) Board of Directors.

The NFCB is a national alliance of stations, producers, and others committed to community radio, whose purpose is to advocate “for national public policy, funding, recognition and resources on behalf of its membership, while providing services to empower and strengthen community broadcasters through the core values of localism, diversity, and public service.”

The Board of Directors at the NFCB consists of seven people elected by the member stations and the Director. Through planning, outreach and assessment, the NFCB board “works to benefit NFCB, its member stations, and community radio as a whole.”

Benedict will be attending four board meetings a year, one of which is in Washington DC. At this meeting the NFCB Board will be visiting with Congressional representatives to ensure the continuation of support and legislation that enable public radio stations of all sizes to continue to serve their communities.

“It is an honor to be elected and to serve on this Board,” says Benedict. “The NFCB has been integral in the survival and growth of WTIP and other small and rural stations. My presence on the board will ensure a voice for stations like WTIP.”
